History
Built in 1431, Gupshill Manor is steeped in history, most of it centering around
the Battle of Tewkesbury in 1471, when the manor house was involved in the War
of the Roses. The manor house also suffered two great fires in its history, one
of which reduced it in size by half.
In the main building, around the fireplaces, you will see some ornately carved
stonework. These pieces were stolen from Tewkesbury Abbey during King Henry
VIII’s dissolution of the monasteries. In the early 1950s Gupshill was converted into
a public house and has undergone several refurbishments to take it to its
present state.
